In North Vietnam, the military often uses coups to remove the legislative power of the government or in some cases to remove a president's authority over the economy. The most famous of these coups was a 1958 coup which overthrew the democratically elected government of North Vietnam and allowed the reunification of the country under the unified Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
